As an artist, what was it like collaborating with ILYSM and translating your aesthetic to something not only commercial but practical?
I appreciate how collaborating with ILYSM embraces the artist's vision and encourages a free creative process. I have learned so much working with the ILYSM team on the production of these socks and it was helpful to get feedback throughout the brainstorming phase. Wearable art in the form of clothing is a new frontier for me and is something I would like to pursue further, now knowing how my work translates in that form.

Have you made accessories before? Had you ever thought about designing a sock before this?
In regards to accessories I've made before, I have created mushroom & kewpie keychain characters from polymer clay hand painted with acrylic paint and also wearable polymer clay pins (frogs, bok choy, creatures). I've always wanted to see how my art would translate to actual articles of clothing so it was so fun getting the opportunity to design socks for ILYSM.

For the character sock design, I was inspired by Smurfs, Care Bears and vintage puffy stickers from the 70s & 80s. I liked the idea of the creatures peeking out over shoes and imagined them as little cheerful buddies you can wear. The eye design was loosely inspired by eye charts. I initially drew a page of all different eye designs to find one to use, but ended up liking all of them so much and that is how the design came to be. It's also a pun, "i love you so much/eye love you so much. At the time, I was listening to a lot of Strawberry Switchblade, The The and Prefab Sprout.
